La Fille Rouge, Montenegro
A restaurant lit in a warm, low register, with pendant shades over the tables and a soft wash on the walls. The level is set by the white linen, which does most of the reflecting, so the fittings themselves stay dim and unobtrusive.
The table sets the level
White linen bounces more light than anything else in a dining room, so the scheme works down from the table rather than up from the floor. A warm pendant per table gives the setting its brightness; everything else, the banquettes, the gallery wall, the circulation, sits below it.
Warmth without yellow
Amber shades and a warm source together can push a room orange. The architectural layer here is held slightly cooler and aimed at the walls, which keeps the plaster and the artwork reading true while the decorative pendants supply the warmth at the table.
