Majik Caffe

Architect Maja Vidakovic and Karim Rashid worked collaboratively on the interior lighting of this project, realized in 2006. Fabbian lighting designs were employed throughout.

Light inside the surface

There is almost no downlight in the room. Light is built into the honeycomb wall, behind the bar face and inside the moulded feature, so every bright surface is an object rather than a fixture. That is what lets the room run from daylight to deep magenta without ever looking like a nightclub rig.

An evening in three settings

The bar works as a café in the afternoon and as a club at midnight. Three scenes carry it: neutral and bright for the day, warm and low for dinner, saturated colour after eleven. The architecture does not move; only the colour and the level do.
